He had been sick about seven weeks, and while it has been known for quite a while that his condition was serious, the news of his death came as a shock to his many friends here. He leaves his mother, three sisters, one brother and scores of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. His remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Second article of death appearing in The Comrade, December 30, 1910 In Memoriam On the evening of November 22th, the Death Angel entered the home of our friend and neighbor and took there from her eldest born Alexander. It has been well said, "Death loves a shining mark." When he calls one of our loved ones it always seems that was the dearest of all. Alex or Zan, as his mother called him, was a quiet exemplary young man, the stay and comfort of his widowed mother, the eldest boy of a family of orphans (his father being lost at sea as he returned from a visit to his native German home). He was looking forward to a life of usefulness and helpfulness in his community. The human mind can't reconcile itself to the loss, the loving hearts reconcile from the thought of the long separation, and we cry out in our agony, Oh, why was he taken? Why not someone not so much needed? Bur God answers back, "All things work together for good to those who love me." So while our eyes cannot pierce the veil of God's reason yet we know He doeth all things well; He loves us or He would never have given His Son to die for us. And here is the balm for our sorrow. He died for tis! For Alex who received him into his heart - for loved one, and you may all meet him and his Savior there around the throne where there shall be no more sorrow nor crying for God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. O Death, where is thy sting! O grave, where is thy victory! His friend, C. W. SHERMAN Dodson Times please copy.
