Mathews Services for Earl G. Mathews, 51, of Winnfield, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Phelps and Rev. Norris Curry officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mr. Mathews died Saturday, January 31, 1981 in the local hospital after a long illness. He was an ordained deacon and member of Westside Baptist Church, and was a member of Oliver Masonic Lodge in Alexandria. He was retired from KCS Railroad Company, a 32nd degree mason and a shriner. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha S. Mathews of Winnfield; three sons, Roger Mathews of Winnfield, Vernon L. Mathews of Shreveport, and Tommy Mathews of Alexandria; his mother, Mrs. Bertie Melton of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Jo Ann Witteborg Jr. and Mrs. Barbara Keller, both of Shreveport; maternal grandmother Mrs. Minnie Philan of Shreveport; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Fannie Mathews of Dodson; and five grandchildren. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Mathews, Mrs. Donna Jean Gentry, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Bolton, Mrs. Julia Rollins and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hurley, all of Alexandria; Mrs. Olevia Doremire, Dodson; Mr. and Mrs. Huey Wallace and Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie O'Neal, Dry Prong; Mr. and Mrs. Jonh Matthews, Monroe; and Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Whittenburg, Mrs. Bertie Melton, and Mrs. Barbara Keller, Shreveport.
