Maxey, 56, native of Winnfield and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Maxey of this city, died at his home in Hayward, California, July 19, 1974. He had been a resident of California 35 years. Mr. Maxey was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Navy and a retired Fire Chief of Hayward. Last rites were conducted in Hayward at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Chimes, with burial in a Hayward cemetery. Mrs. T. M. (Doris) Varnell of Winnfield went Sunday via plane from Shreveport to attend the funeral of her brother. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Estelle Maxey, and one son, George, both of Hayward; three sisters, Mrs. T. M. (Doris) Varnell and Mrs. Leon (Bessie) Varnell, both of Winnfield, and Mrs. L. W. (Elois) Morris of Tylertown, Miss.; three brothers, Robert Maxey of Winnfield, Arthur Ray Maxey of Baton Rouge, and Clarence Maxey of Winnfield.
