C. Mayes, 81, Succumbs; Rites Monday Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Maude Grace Mayes, 81, of Sikes in the Southern Funeral Home chapel in Winnfield with the Rev. Willie James and the Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial was in Wright Cemetery near Sikes. Mrs. Mayes, 81, of Sikes, died Saturday, February 23, 1974 at E. A. Conway Memorial Hospital in Monroe after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mayes was a housewife, a member of Sikes Baptist Church, and a native of Sikes. Survivors include her husband, L. C. Mayes of Sikes; three daughters, Mrs. Noah Pepper of Sikes, Mrs. W. W. Hatten of West Monroe, and Mrs. B. R. Hudman of Mineola, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. M. K. Chapman of Grapevine, Texas, Mrs. G. K. Stewart and Mrs. Vivian Vaughn, both of Fort Sumner, N. M.; 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Miller, Tom Park, Jimmy Ray Hatten, Douglas Parker, Noah Pepper, Jr., Gerald Pepper.
