Mrs. T. McManus of Houston, Winn Native, Succumbs

Mrs. Avis Smith McManus, 53, wife of T. O. McManus, Harris County Deputy
Constable, Houston, Texas, died Saturday in Memorial Baptist Hospital,
Houston.  She was a native of Winn Parish, but had resided in Houston since
1940.

Last rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday with burial in Forest Park Lawndale
Cemetery.

Prominent in civic affairs, she was active promoter of the Eagles High Sky
Ranch for Homeless Girls, to whom she played Santa Clauxe for many years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry Cole,
Pasadena, Texas; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Smith, Winnfield; a
sister, Mrs. R. L. Basin, New Orleans; two brothers, Willard Smith of
Atlanta, and Walter Smith of Monroe.
