S. Naval Reserve, son of Mrs. Bertha R. McCann of Alexandria, and former resident of Winnfield, was recently reported killed in an explosion at sea. Seaman McCann was previously reported missing following the complete destruction of the U. S. S. Mount Hood by an accidental explosion on Nov. 10, 1944, at an advanced base in the Pacific. Although an extensive search of the surrounding area was made, no trace was found of Seaman McCann. After a period of two months, he was officially reported dead by the Navy. Seaman McCann formerly attended Winnfield High School and is the nephew of J. E. Rayburn, Mrs. Leon Dubois, and Estelle Ingles of Winnfield.
