McCarty's Death Otis Reece, negro, is now free on $700 bond, charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Bush McCarty, another negro, who died from wounds alleged inflicted by Reece. The McCarty negro died Sunday in Charity Hospital where he was taken following the altercation with Reece on Sunday night, October 11 in the Hatfield quarters. Reeced allegedly shot McCarty through the chest. McCarty was buried here Monday afternoon. He is a member of a widely known negro family of Winnfield. =========== Submitter: Greggory E. Davies Date: 20 June 2004 Source: Winnfield News-American December 31, 1937 Mrs. J. E. McCarty Buried At Beech Creek on Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. J. E. McCarty, 81, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. N. Whitehead, were held Saturday at the Beech Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. C. B. Gates of Monroe officiating. Interment was in the Beech Creek Cemetery. The deceased is survived by two sons, J. M. McCarty of Shreveport and W. H. McCarty of Flat Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Niager of Shreveport and Mrs. C. N. Whitehead of Grayson; 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. =====
