He died suddenly at his home in New Orleans, Saturday, August 1. McCollum had served in an executive capacity for the past 12 years with the A. F. of L. in Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Malonsene, of Lafayette, a teacher in Orleans Parish schools, one son, and three daughters, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McCollum of Ferriday, two brothers, and four sisters, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Baptist Church, a Mason and a Shriner, with membership in the Jerusalem Temple, New Orleans.
