McCarty, Flat Creek, Killed In Action In Italy Parents Informed In Message From U. S. War Department Cpl. J. T. "Ted" McCarty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCarty of Flat Creek, was reported killed in action in Italy, according to information received from the United States War Department. Cpl. McCarty graduated from the Winnfield High School and later trained as a mechanic. He went into service in February, 1942 and was stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss., where he was assigned to a mechanics training group. After completing his training he was sent overseas last winter and has been stationed in Italy since about the first of the year. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCarty of Flat Creek, two sisters, Mrs. Oma Allbritton of Tullos and Mrs. Curtis Mayes of Vinton, two brothers, Sherman H. McCarty of Roanoke, La., and Wiston McCarty of Tullos. He was the nephew of Mrs. S. J. Harper.
