J. T. McCarty Killed In Action In Italy May 23 Sgt. J. T. "Ted" McCarty, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McCarty of Flat Creek, was killed in action in Italy May 23, a message from the war department advised his parents last Tuesday. Sgt. McCarty entered services in February, 1942, and was given overseas assignment last December. He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Floyd Allbritton of Tullos and Mrs. Curtis Mayes of Vinton; two brothers, Wiston McCarty of Tullos and Sherman McCarty of Roanoke and an aunt, Mrs. S. J. Harper of Winnfield. Following his graduation from the Winnfield High School, Sgt. McCarty attended the local trade school. 6-29-44 Sgt. James T. "Ted" McCarty, 26 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCarty of Flat Creek, La., was killed in action in Italy on May 23, according to a message from the War Department received by his parents June 15. He had been overseas five months. A graduate of the Winnfield High School of the class of 1938, young McCarty was attending the local trade school at the time he entered service January 26, 1942. He received his training at Camp Wheeler, Ga., Camp Shelby, Miss., and at Ft. Benning, Ga., where he was trained in motor mechanics. From there he maneuvered in Louisiana and was then sent to Camp Pilots Knob, Calif., and then was given a furlough before going to Ft. Dix, New Jersey and thence overseas. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Wiston of Flat Creek and Sherman McCarty of Roanoke, La., and two sisters, Mrs. B. F. Allbritton of Tullos and Mrs. Curtis Mayes of Vinton, La. The last letter received by his parents from him was dated May 22, and his death occurred May 23.
