Cpl. A. E. McDavid Death Reported From Luzon

Cpl. Austin E. McDavid, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter McDavid of Route 2,
Winnfield, died May 26 while serving on Luzon, according to a notice from the
War Department to his parents.

The war department telegram stated: "The Secretary of War is sorry to inform
you that Austin McDavid died on Luzon on May 26.."

Cpl. McDavid's last letter to his parents was written on May 24, it was
reported.

Cpl. McDavid entered service in January, 1943, and was transferred to the
South Pacific area in August, 1943.  He received his training at Camp Davis
and Ft. Fisher, N. C.

His brother, Charlie McDavid, resides in Monroe, and his two sisters, Mrs.
Claude Meredith and Miss Eva McDavid, live in Urania.
