L. McDonald Thursday Morning Augustus Lawson McDonald, 76, former state representative, died at his home in Winnfield Wednesday morning at 12:10 o'clock succumbing to an illness of influenza. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at the Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member, by Rev. Harvey B. Hartsell and Rev. H. H. McBride. Interment was in the local cemetery. The pallbearers were Matt Milam, Hasson Morris, Albert Nugent, Him Watts, J. M. Hyde, and P. K. Abel. Honorary pallbearers were W. E. Heard, N. L. Horton, Joe Heard, H. B. Bozeman, and W. W. Allen. Mr. McDonald was born June 20, 1867 at Gansville, La., and moved to Winnfield in 1899, when the first railroad was routed through Winnfield. He was first employed by the Morris Bernstein mercantile establishment and between the years 1910 and 1925 was partner to Joe and W. E. Heard in the hardware, furniture business. Later he was president of the Winnfield Construction Company, which built the first gravel roads in this parish. He was elected state representative from Winn Parish in 1928, served until 1932 and at one time was employed by the Louisiana Highway Commission as maintenance superintendent of the 9th district. Surviving are his widow, two sons, Gordon McDonald of Fort Bliss, Texas and A. L. McDonald, Jr., of Texas City, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Nathaniel Harris of Mobile, Ala.; two brothers, Dr. Clarence McDonald of Manford, Oklahoma and Henry McDonald of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
