A. E. McDavid On Luzon Told In Letter A letter from his chaplain describing burial services on Luzon of Cpl. Austin E. McDavid was received recently by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter McDavid of Route 2, Winnfield. Cpl. McDavid was a veteran of almost two years of fighting in the South Pacific. The letter received from Cpl. McDavid's Chaplain is quoted below: "Dear Mr. and Mrs. McDavid: You have heard from the War Department of the death of your son, Austin, and as his Chaplain I would like to direct your thoughts to God's Sacred Word as the source of all comfort. Your son received a Christian burial with full military honors in the United States Cemetery at Sonton Barbra, Luzon, Philippine Island. His comrades were present at the service, serving as pallbearers and forming the firing squad. Those with whom he served his country stood in formation at his grave and thus gave evidence of respect and affection they felt for him. The cemetery in which his body rests is most beautiful and a white cross bearing his name marks his grave. As Christians, we trust the Divine wisdom and love of our Almighty God. With St. Paul we say: "I know that all things work together for the good of those who love God." To them that are called accordingly to his purpose this is the source of our hope and strength. The Psalmist beautifully pens this thought: 'The Lord is My Shepard I shall not want. I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.' Lovingly, our Blessed Savior spoke, 'Let not your heart be troubled - Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto Myself - that where I am, then Ye may also be. We live in sure and certain hope of the resurrection and the Blessed reunion with all whom we love in the presence of our Heavenly Father."
