Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. From: October 21, 1943 Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites For V. V. McDavid Are Held Monday V. V. McDavid 72 years of age, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Gorham, of East Winnfield Friday, October 15, 1943. Born July 9, 1870, in Lincoln County, Brookhaven, Miss., he came to Winn parish fifty years ago, where he engaged in farming until a few years ago when he became crippled with arthritis. Since the death of his wife three years ago he had made his home with his daughter. He became a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church when he first came to Louisiana and remained an active member until his death. Surviving are: One son, E. M. McDavid, and two daughters, Mrs. Jake Gorham and Mrs. C. E. Gorham, all of Winnfield, Route Two; one half brother, Willie McDavid, Bently, La; two brothers, Walter and Zeak, of Route Two, Winnfield. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Out of the 17 grandchildren he has three grandsons serving in the U. S. Army and one grandson-in-law, Pfc. Charles Malehorn, husband of Erma Lee Gorham, serving with the army somewhere in the New England States. Funeral services were conducted at the East Winnfield Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. J. A. McMurry officiating. Rev J. H. Cockerham assisted. Interment was in the East Winnfield cemetery. ********************************************************************* In addition, I'd like to add the following information: Virgil Valentine McDavid was a native of MS and the son of William Curtis McDavid and Elizabeth Jane Busby, also natives of MS. He married Octavia Bardwell in 1889. Their children were as follows: Carrie Jenny McDavid, w/o Clarence Edward Gorham, Sr., E. M. McDavid, h/o Minnie Mae Long and Amanda Jane "Mandy" McDavid, w/o Jacob Sidney "Jake" Gorham. He was buried in the Gorham Cemetery, Winn Parish, LA.
