Mrs. J. H. McElroy, 84, a resident of Winnfield for the past 20 years and prior to that a resident of Atlanta since the age of 12, died in a Winnfield hospital at 1:30 p.m. January 9 after a short illness. She was a native of Magnolia, Arkansas. Mrs. McElroy was a devout member of the First Baptist Church and the WMU. She recently was honored as the oldest member of the Home Demonstration Council in Winn Parish. Her father, the late J. M. Webb, was a pioneer Winn resident, having served the parish as a police jury member from the Atlanta area in the early days. Last rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 11, in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. W. L. Holcomb and the Rev. Kenneth Wall officiating. Burial will be in the Atlanta Cemetery. Mrs. McElroy is survived by two sons, Dallas and Ardis McElroy of Winnfield; four daughters, Mrs. A. E. Davis of Shreveport, Mrs. Stephen Juneau of Topeka, Kans., Mrs. B. F. Reinking, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Lunsford G. Bates of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Groves, Winnfield, and Mrs. Pearl Boelin of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.
