"Bill" McFarland, 72, of Beaumont, TX died Tuesday, March 5, 1996 at his residence. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 1996 at St. Anthony's Cathedral with burial following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard's Mortuary in Beaumont, TX. A Christian Vigil was held at 7 p.m. at the mortuary. A native of Winnfield, LA, he had lived in Beaumont for 37 years where he was retired from American Valve and Hydrant Maintenance Department. He was a U.S. Marine WWII veteran. Survivors include his wife; Catherine McFarland of Beaumont, TX; daughter Rose Mary Foxworth of Sante Fe, Tx; sons Danny McFarland of Beaumont and Michael McFarland of Beaumont; step-mother Billie McFarland of Winnfield, LA; brothers Loran McFarland of Winnfield, LA, Bob McFarland of Longview, WA, Lester Wheeler of Ft. Worth, TX, Charles McFarland of Winnfield, LA, Buddy McFarland of Winnfield, LA, Pete McFarland of Bentley, LA and Sam McFarland of Winnfield, LA; sisters Cleo Kavanaugh of Tallulah, LA, Myra Johnson of Winnfield, LA, Nan Gordon of Tioga, LA and Thelma Anderson of Bossier, LA and five grandchildren. (Footnote added by submitter) W L McFarland was born 10/07/1923 at Tannehill, the fourth child of nine. He had eight half-brother/sisters. He was prededed in death by brothers Troy Varnell and George Thomas; sisters Marjorie and Wardell. As a rifleman in the 1st Marine Div., he was on campaigns at Pelieu, Tarawa, Saipan and Iwo Jima in the Pacific Theater during WW11. His parents were William Loran McFarland (12/31/1896 - 1/11/1960) and Rosie Coonce (1899 - 1934); grandparents were George Thomas McFarland (4/21/1840 - 6/25/1909) and Nancy Catherine Warner (1/12/1869 - 4/14/1945); all buried at Zion Hill Cem; and Ed Coonce Sr. (8/29/1880 - 4/02/1977) and Mollie Cockerham (1/25/1882 - 8/04/1982), buried at Hurricane Creek Cem. His great-grandparents were John D McFarland (1814 - 1860) and Mary (1822 - 1877) and David James Warner (7/10/1822 - 2/22/1896) and Louisiana Rebella Crissup ( 8/21/1845 - 1/13/1930); both buried at Zion Hill.
