McIlwain Dies In Texas Town, Buried At Sardis Final Rites Conducted On Saturday for 90 Year Old Man John T. McIlwain, resident of Winn Parish for many years, died at his son's home in Anson, Texas, Thursday, November 16. He was 90 years old. Funeral services sere conducted at the Sardis Baptist Church by Rev. H. H. McBride, of the Winnfield First Baptist Church, Saturday morning, with interment in the Sardis Cemetery. Grandchildren of the deceased served as pallbearers. Mr. McIlwain is survived by nine of his 14 children: Mrs. Jackson Payne of Albuquerque, N. M., Mrs. John O'Neal of Bunkie, Mrs. Tiny McManus of Alice, Texas, and Mrs. Ella Craig of Washington; Crawford McIlwain of Los Angeles, Calif., Charlie McIlwain of Mathis, Texas, and Lafayette McIlwain of Eros, La. Three sisters, Mrs. J. L. Durham, Atlanta, Mrs. M. M. Melton and Mrs. Lizzie Gant of Bentley. Mr. McIlwain was born in Mississippi, grew up at Atlanta and lived for a short while at Verda, before moving to Texas in about 1910. He was affectionately known as "Uncle John" and passed away 11 days after his 90th birthday.
