J. Perkins of Winnfield, La., departed this life in Franklin Parish on February 10th, 1903, and was buried at the Wright grave yard, the family burial place, which is situated in the northern portion of Winn Parish. The subject of this sketch, who married Neal P. McKaskle at an early age was barn [sic born] in Winn Parish, June 30th, 1882, and resided in her native parish until a few weeks before her untimely death, she moved to Franklin Parish with her husband, with the hope with young life before them, that they might go hence and begin with new life, accumulate and build up a home which would maintain early comforts in old age, and sustain the offsprings of their joys, but, alas, the grim monster death cuts asunder this fond hope and leaves a bereft husband, two little babes, a sorrowing father, mother, brother and four sisters, besides many friends and relatives to mourn her untimely departure. At the age of thirteen she joined the Baptist Church and was a consistent member until her death. Only a few minutes before her death she called her husband to her bedside with the two little babes and kissed them goodbye, and died with a smile on her face which was still visible when she was interred into her last resting place. How sad it is to part with our loved ones, but we are not left entirely without consolation, for we still have the fond hope of meeting in the land of peace and joy where no trouble is allowed to enter therein. A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is still, A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon his love had given; And tho' the body moulders here, The soul is safe in Heaven. AN UNCLE.
