McManus Dies Following Second Stroke Was Historian and Widely Known As An Entertainer Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Prof. P. McManus who died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. P. Lovette December 11th at 7 a.m. after a second stroke of paralysis. Services were conducted by Rev. Otto Hughes with interment in the Mars Hill Cemetery. Edmonds Funeral Home directed the burial. Mr. McManus was born in Alabama, September 21, 1857 and came to Louisiana when very young, living in Winn Parish the remainder of his life. He died a member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church and it is said by those who knew him for many years to have possessed the greatest memory of any self educated man in this vicinity. Prof. McManus is widely known because of his ability to entertain others with history that few men could relate. Aside from his learning he had great faith in the creator's provision for a further life as taught in the Bible. His last feeble request to his children was "that they put their trust in Him who was able to save," and he related the words of the song of hope, "There Is A Deep Silent River Flowing From The Throne With Its Waters Dark And Wide, And By Faith We See A Light, Yes A Beacon Light, Just Across On The Other Side." Surviving are four daughters and five sons. They are Mrs. Massie Heard, Epps, La.; Mrs. Minnie Johnson, Verda; Mrs. I. P. Lovette, Verda; Mrs. Russell Tarver, Winnfield; Mr. Lance McManus, Atlanta; V. C. McManus, Port Arthur; G. P. McManus, S. L. McManus, Travis McManus, all of Atlanta, Route Two.
