McManus Killed In Car Crash Wayne B. McManus, 26, of the Mars Hill Community at Route 1, Atlanta, was killed about 6 a.m. Wednesday in a one-car crash about 4.3 miles west of Winnfield on U. S. Hwy. 84, according to State Trooper Marlin Connor, who investigated the accident. Connor said the accident was caused when the right front wheel and tire came off the 1961 Triumph, causing the driver to lose control. He said the car was traveling at about 65 miles per hour at the time. The car left the highway on the right side, making several complete rolls, the trooper said. According to Connor, McManus, the only occupant, was thrown out and the vehicle came down on his head, killing him. The car was demolished, Connor reported. The victim was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alon McManus of the Mars Hill community. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield are incomplete. McManus, a graduate of Montgomery High School, had served a tour of duty in the Armed Forces, which included a year in Vietnam. He had been employed in offshore oil work, but was seeking employment in Winnfield. Surviving are his parents, a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Davis, and a brother, Gerald McManus, both of New Orleans.
