McCartney, assistant forest ranger with the United States Forestry Service at Winnfield, were held Sunday, August 10, at 3 p.m. at the Laurel Heights Baptist Church. Rev. C. C. Martin, pastor, officiated. Burial followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery at Olla under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were James T. Hemphill, Ralph W. Freeman, Dallas Henderson, Olan F. Aycock, Horace Alexander, Ben Williams, Asa Martin, and Robert Shaddox. Honorary pallbearers were personnel of the Forestry Department. A native of LaSalle Parish, Mr. McCartney died in a Winnfield hospital August 8 after a lengthy illness. He was 50 years of age. He had lived most of his life in Winnfield, where he was a member and active worker in the Laurel Heights Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Q. T. McCartney, Winnfield; a daughter, Mrs. Howard Groves, Cordell, Okla.; a son, David, Jr., Winnfield; two brothers, Carey, Lake Charles, and Lamar, Jena; a sister, Mrs. Woodrow Gough, Winnfield; and his mother, Mrs. Julia Greer, Jena.
