Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Winnfield Presbyterian Church. The Rev. W. R. Gage officiated. Burial was in Melton Cemetery near Winnfield. Mr. Melton was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a retired farmer and employee of American Creosote where he was a tie checker. He was a native of Winn Parish. Surviving are his widow, three stepsons, O. J. White, Baton Rouge, E. H. White, Sondheimer, and Doyle White, Oak Grove; six stepdaughters, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Beatty, Minden, Mrs. Murphy Smith, Farmerville, Mrs. Johnnie Bennett, Oak Grove, Mrs. Lennie Mae Williams, Nicholson, Miss., Mrs. Edith White, Tallulah, and Mrs. Ethel Arender, Alexandria; two brothers, Cranford Melton and Lee Melton, both of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Finch and Mrs. Jewel Shepherd, both of Baton Rouge; 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
