Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Bill Heard, John Mosley, Lee Grigsby, Wade Moore, George Hightower, Lehman Sullivan. Mrs. Melton died at a local hospital Friday. She had been in failing health about two months. Mrs. Melton was born September 8, 1893, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Howell, prominent residents of Winn Parish. She was reared near Winnfield and spent most of her life in this parish. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Shreveport. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Russell Richardson Stell, Shreveport; Lt. Col. James Howell Stell, Raleigh, N. C.; Lt. Col. Glenn Aswell Stell, Madison, Wisc.; one daughter, Mrs. Evan A. Thomas, Cotton Valley, La. She also leaves six sisters, Mrs. Julia Sweat, Mrs. Iva Melton, and Mrs. Viola Melton of Georgetown; Mrs. Alma Garland, Minden; Mrs. Grace Rosenblath, Shreveport; and Mrs. Sadie Warren, Winnfield; and four brothers, Finley Howell and DeLeon Howell, Winnfield, Hughie Howell, Magnolia, Ark., and DeSoto Howell, Charleston, W. Va., and five grandchildren.
