H. Melton, 62, Dies After Brief Illness Sam Herman Melton, 62, of Route 1, Winnfield, died Wednesday, November 22, 1972, in a local hospital following a short illness. He was a native of Winnfield and an employee of the Louisiana Department of Highways and was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Linnette D. Melton; one son, Sam H. Melton, Jr., of Winnfield; two daughters, Mrs. Artist Cockerham of Dodson and Mrs. Alvin Hudnall of Winnfield; two brothers, Luther H. Melton of Winnfield and John M. Melton of Minden; two sisters, Mrs. P. C. Finlay of Winnfield and Mrs. E. I. Long of Henderson, Texas; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the United Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Duplechain officiating. Burial was in Melton Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
