Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Melton Cemetery, near Packton. Rev. Alwin Stokes officiated the last rites, assisted by Rev. W. C. Bounds. Burial was under direction of Hixon Brothers in Winnfield. Mr. Melton was the son of the late J. E. and Alma Jordan Melton, pioneer residents of Winn Parish. He was in the timber business most of his life until he recently retired seven years ago due to ill health. He was engaged in the poultry business at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Sue White Melton; one son, Charles E., Turkey Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Stoke of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Ivene Bancfort, Maracaio, Venezuela, South Americah; four brothers, Luther, Sam, John, and Marvin, aoo of Winnfield; two sisters, Mrs. P. C. Finley of Packton and Mrs. E. I. Long of Henderson, Texas. Pallbearers were Henry Nugent, Seiss Nugent, Ernest Melton, Joe Gail Long, Heflin Nugent, and Jewell Nugent, all nephews of Mr. Melton.
