All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 4, 1958 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Son of Winn Native Killed In Gun Accident Jack Edmund Melton, 14 year old son of Airman William Jack Melton, Winn Parish native, was accidentally shot and killed by a younger brother Thanksgiving morning, after they had returned from a deer hunt. Accidentally discharging the deer rifle was Kenneth Melton, 11 year old brother of the victim. The bullet struck the boy in the back. Funeral services were held Saturday at 9 a.m. in Castroville, Texas, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Melton live. Mr. Melton is stationed at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio. Attending the funeral from here were the boy's grandmother, Mrs. Iva Melton of Packson, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Melton and Frances of Winnfield, and Mrs. B. E. Melton. Surviving are his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Michael; one sister, Iva Suzanne; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Iva Melton, wife of the late William J. "Bud" Melton; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Terrell of Corpus Christi, Texas.
