Bowman Melton Last Rites Are Held Monday

Funeral services for Riley Bowman Melton, 53, who died at his home at
8:25 a.m. Saturday from an apparent self inflicted bullet wound were
held Monday, February 1, 1971, at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Willie James, Rev. W.R. Gage, Rev. Jackie Duplechain, Jr., and
Rev. N.W. Causey officiating.

Burial was in the Melton Cemetery.

Melton, who lived alone, was found at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the yard of
his home. A member of the Melton family asked the Winn Parish Sheriff's
Department to check on him when efforts to contact Melton by phone
failed.

Survivors include two brothers, James E. Melton of Oak Grove and Huey
Melton of Winnfield; a sister, Mrs. Mamie Younger of Baton Rouge, and
his stepmother, Mrs. Riley Melton, Sr., of Winnfield.
