Melton 76, Of Packton Dies; Last Rites Sept. 8 William J. (Bud) Melton, 76, passed away in a Winnfield hospital at 12:55 a.m. Saturday following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Melton Family cemetery near Packton with the Rev. L. G. Mabry, Rev. Ennis Bonnette, Rev. Otis Davidson and Rev. Mr. Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Melton cemetery under direction of Hixon Brothers Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were: W. K. Melton, Allen Carlyse, Lynn Melton, John D. Long, Nathan Stevens and Curtis Warren. Mr. Melton was a native and life long resident of Winn Parish and operated a saw mill here for many years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Iva H. Melton of Packton; two sons, W. W. Melton, Georgetown; Major W. J. Melton, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Harkins, Winnfield; Mrs. T. J. Hale, England; one brother, B. E. (Walker) Melton, Georgetown; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Charping, Vicksburg; Mrs. Mollie Stevens, Winnfield, and Mrs. Kate Mosley of Alpine, Tex. Footnote added 8/22/1999: He was born 4/16/1881 near Packton and married Iva Pearl Howell (5/18/1889 - 11/24/1972) on 1/03/1911.
