M. Mercer Succumbs After Short Illness Mrs. Ophelia Long Mercer, 87, of Winnfield, member of a prominent Winn Parish pioneer family, died in a local hospital at 3 p.m. December 25, 1962 after a short illness. She was the widow of the late P. M. Mercer, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb conducting the last rites. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Grandsons acting as pallbearers were Aswell Matthews, Felix J. Mercer, Max J. Mercer, James Sikes, Tom Dean, and Coleman Hudson. Surviving are one son, P. Hugh Mercer of Winnfield; nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
