F. Mercer, 74, Succumbs; Rites Wednesday Mrs. William Fred Mercer, 74, of Winnfield, died early Tuesday, April 15, 1975 in a local hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church here. Survivors include her husband, William Fred Mercer of Winnfield; three sons, Rev. Earl D. Mercer of Monroe, W. Elmo Mercer of Nashville, Tenn., and James Ronald Mercer of Crossett, Ark.; one daughter, Mrs. Dan Rankin of Byers, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Bolton, Mrs. Delia White, and Mrs. Mary Andres, all of Jena, and 10 grandchildren. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home with the Revs. Calvin Phelps and Charles Haley officiating. Burial was in Big Creek Cemetery near Dry Prong. The family has requested that memorials be sent to the building fund of the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, Monroe. Pallbearers included Wade East, David Mercer, Dan Rankin, Jr., Bill Mercer, Danny Hanes, and Steve Rankin.
