Mr. Mercer, a resident of Atlanta Highway, Winnfield, died in a local hospital Monday afternoon after suffering a stroke at his home early that morning. Conducting the services was the pastor, Dr. W. L. Holcomb, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Mercer, a member of one of Winns prominent families, was born and reared in Winnfield. He was a veteran of World War I, and suffered a disability from that service. He was a member of the American Legion and was a Master Mason. He was engaged in supervising and assisting with construction of a new home on Atlanta Highway when stricken. Mr. Mercer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lotta Mercer of Winnfield; two sons, Felix Jerre Mercer of Natchitoches and Max Jay Mercer with the U. S. Navy in Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Miss Patty Mercer of Winnfield and Miss Wanda Ann Mercer of Philiadelphia, Philadelphia , Pa.; his mother, Mrs . Pollard Mercer of Winnfield; one brother, P. Hugh Mercer of Winnfield, and four grandchildren . Pallbearers were Clifford Crone, L. L .Brewton, Sr., John Emerson, Tommy Harrel, Judge H. L. Allen, Robert Lee Dunn, Pete Gresham, D. C. Allen, and Sanford Jordan. Among those out of town attending the funeral were A. C. Gilleylen of Hudson, Mich., Mrs. Norma McKay, and son, Frank , of Waverly, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Mercer, age 74, who died at his home at Gorhamtown Friday of last week, were held at Pleasant Hill Church the following afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment was made in the church cemetery. The Rev. D. W. McDaniel, pastor of the East Winnfield Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Moses Mercer of Colfax, conducted the services. Mr. Mercer had been in failing health for more than three years. He was born in Winn Parish and had lived all his life in and around Winnfield. He was a member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Lucy Smith Mercer; one son, Perry Mercer of Monroe, two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Mayeaux of New Orleans and Mrs. M. E. Figley of Downsville, La.; one brother, M. H.
