Mercer, 74, Dies At His Home In E. Winnfield Burial Was Made at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Saturday J. M. Mercer, 74 years of age, died Friday, August 25, 1939, at 11 p.m. at his home in East Winnfield. Mr. Mercer had been in ill health for the past two or three years. Funeral services were conducted at the Pleasant Hill Church Saturday evening at 3 o'clock with the Rev. D. W. McDaniel and the Rev. Moses Mercer officiating. Mr. Mercer was born and reared in this parish. He was a farmer and carpenter, but had been employed by the highway commission until his health began to fail him. He was a member of the Winnfield Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucy Smith Mercer, two daughters and one son, Perry H. Mercer, Monroe; Mrs. M. E. Figley, Downsville, La., and Mrs. L. C. Mayeaux, New Orleans; one brother, Millard H. Mercer, Pleasant Hill; four sisters, Mrs. C. Jordan, Mrs. Mary Allen, Mrs. R. L. Frantom, Winnfield, and Mrs. W. M. Crawford, Campti.
