M. Mercer, 78, Winn Native Funeral services for Pollard M. Mercer, 78, native and lifelong resident of Winn Parish, were conducted at the Winnfield First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. H. H. McBride, Rev. Alwin Stokes, and Rev. Fred Flurry officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Mercer died at his home, 1200 Oak Street in Winnfield early Sunday morning after an illness of several months. He was born in Winn Parish January 4, 1871 and had been a resident of Winnfield for the past 36 years. Before moving to Winnfield he was a farmer in the Beech Creek community. After moving here he continued farming until his health failed several years ago. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. P. M. Mercer of Winnfield; two sons, P. Hugh Mercer and Felix Mercer, Sr., of Winnfield; four brothers, Silas of Olla, Commodore of Epps, and Willard and King of Winnfield, and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were Henry E. Harlan, A. L. Sikes, Judge Cas Moss, Ralph Dawson, Eck Bozeman, Arnet E. Garriss, Doris Warner, and John Y. Bell.
