All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 14, 1929 Winn Parish Enterprise John Milton Milam Buried Here Monday Well-Known Citizen Passes Away In Shreveport; Services Here At Baptist Church John Milton Milam, 61 years old, died in the Tri-State Sanitarium at 8:15 o'clock Sunday morning, two days after he had been carried to Shreveport for treatment. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Monday afternoon, the Rev. J. D. Kitchingham, Baptist minister, and the Rev. C. C. Wier, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the family graveyard, known as the Teagle Cemetery, about three miles from Winnfield. Pallbearers were Mayor R. W. Buce, W. H. Baker, J. M. Hyde, Lee Grigsby, W. U. Drewett, and John Mosley. Honorary pallbearers were W. T. Heflin, Charles Walsworth, Sheriff Bryant Sholars, Harry Fuller, A. L. Bryan, Dr. F. C. Wren, Eugene Beck, R. D. Cantwell, J. C. Brooks, Walter Allen, P. K. Abel, A. T. Drewett, H. L. Boyett, and W. T. Norman. The many beautiful floral offerings from friends and relatives in Shreveport, El Dorado, and Winnfield attested the high esteem in which Mr. Milam was held. Mr. Milam was one of Winn Parish's own sons. He was born in Winnfield and has lived here all his life. Mr. Milam was the son of S. G. Milam, who was a pioneer citizen of Winn Parish. He was married to Miss Alice Sneed, of Winnfield, who was the daughter of W. M. Sneed, on December 21, 1892. He was well known in Winn Parish as a cattleman. He had been in the services of the city for a year. Surviving Mr. Milam are his widow and two children, Mrs. H. R. Dickerson of Shreveport and Arthur Milam, Winnfield; one grandson, Arthur Milam, Jr., of Winnfield; two brothers, W. M. Milam of Winnfield and D. C. Milam of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. G. W. Lowe of Calvin. Out of town friends and relatives who attended the funeral were D. C. Milam and two daughters, the former Pearl and Ola Vee Milam, of Monroe; Willard Smith, Mrs. V. E. Weyland and Mr. Sheffield, of Shreveport; Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Griffith, Mrs. F. D. Shanks, Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Mistrot, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Sinclair, Leo Jones, Gordon Ganoe, Tommie Holcomb, and Mrs. H. H. Green, of El Dorado.
