M. Milam Dies Here Saturday at Noon Rites Sunday Life-Long Resident of Parish is Victim of Heart Attack William Madison Milam, 72, one of the most prominent business men in Winn Parish and founder of W. M. Milam & Son, died at his home here at noon Saturday, December 31, 1932. Mr. Milam was eating dinner when he suffered a heart attack and succumbed in a short time. he had been suffering heart attacks for the past two or three years, and his death, through sudden, was not unexpected. The deceased was born January 18, 1861 near Gansville, and has never lived outside Winn Parish. He had been a resident of Winnfield, where he established his mercantile business for the past 25 years, and was well known and highly esteemed by all who knew him. On February 7, 1884, he was married to Miss Ella Amanda Peddy, and to them two children were born. Mrs. Milam died in 1918. Interested in farming, he had a farm which he visited often, taking care of its affairs as he did the business of his wholesale and department stores here. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Baptist Church, of which Mr. Milam was a member, with the Rev. J. D. Kitchenham of Columbia, a friend of the family, officiating. The three pastors of the town, A. H. Cullen of the Baptist Church, A. L. Stokes of the Presbyterian Church, and Ellis Smith of the Methodist Church, assisted. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his son, Matt Milam, a daughter, Mrs. J. B. Stothart, and two grandchildren, Matt Milam, Jr., and Helen Lois Milam, all of Winnfield. He also leaves a brother, D. C. Milam of West Monroe, and a sister, Mrs. George Lowe, of Calvin. Employees of Mr. Milam acted as pall bearers, including Jim Russell, Joel Hutson, Parker Thompson, Claud Mixon, Reggie Gates, Harper Terrill, Odis Holland, Howard Sowers, Russell Tullos, Geo. Kelly, W. Pool, Chester Erskins, U. B. Carpenter. A good friend of the colored people, a large number attested to their love for him by attending the funeral.
