Milam of Gansville Dies Friday Last Week Prominent in Affairs of Parish for Past 40 Years John B. Milam, well known civic, religious, and political leader of Winn Parish, died in a Hodge clinic Friday afternoon of last week following an illness of several years. The deceased had lived his entire life in the Gansville Community where he was born in 1867. His parents, J. T. and Lizzie Wasson Milam, lived about two miles west of Dodson. In 1890 he was married to Miss Viola Stone and in 1892 they moved to the Simms place, where they have resided since. He was a member of the Gansville Baptist Church, in which he was very active and a member of the Masonic Lodge at Dodson. He was elected member of the Winn Parish Police Jury in 1912 and remained in that office until 1924. As a member of the Police Jury he was instrumental in inaugurating the good roads program in this section. He was a successful farmer, stockman, merchant, and timber man and was active in his business until a few years ago when failing health forced him to retire. He is survived by his widow, two sons, J. B. Milam, Jr., Ruston, and Ott G. Milam, Tullos; two daughters, Mrs. H. M. Gatlin and Mrs. L. L. Parker, Jonesboro. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at four o'clock at the Gansville Church conducted by the Rev. J. W. Buckner of Jonesboro and that Rev. Paul Hammons, pastor. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Matt Milam, C. F. Walsworth, Bryant Sholars, J. F. Fain, Hasson Morris, J. H. Walker, B. M. Feazell, A. L. Mixon. Honorary pallbearers were J. E. Dark, T. W. Fowler, W. J. Bice, D. W. White, Harry Fuller, B. F. Temple, J. B. Milam, W. E. Heard, Kenneth Watts, A. Peterson, J. J. Peters, Earl K. Long, B. L. Anderson, P. K. Abel, J. B. Payne, J. E. Carter, John Emerson, Mack L. Branch, J. R. Heard, B. M. Stovall, Judge Cas Moss, Dr. B. H. Talbot, Judge R. W. Oglesby, and N. C. Woody.
