All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Former District Attorney Dies Here (From the July 18, 1947 Winnfield News-American) New Orleans Lawyer Is Well Remembered In Winn Parish Robert Edward (Bob) Milling, Sr., 86-year-old prominent attorney of New Orleans and well known in Winn Parish as a former lawyer and district attorney here, died at his home in New Orleans Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday. Born in Winn Parish, he began his practice of law at Winnfield in the office of J. B. Roberts. From 1888-1896 he served as district attorney at Winnfield and then moved to St. Mary Parish, and for a number of years he was a law partner of the late United States Senator Murphy J. Foster in Franklin. Mr. Milling was graduated from the Louisiana State University and Cooper Institute in Lauderdale County, Miss. He was admitted to the practice of law in Louisiana in 1885 and also was qualified in Mississippi. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Association and the New Orleans Bar Association, and also was prominent in Masonic circles and the Boston Club. His wife was the late Ida Roberts Milling. he was related to the late J. W. Teddlie, Sr., of Winnfield and Mrs. J. M. Jackson of Pineville, formerly of Calvin. Mr. Milling was well known in Winn as a citizen and as a public servant. His picture is one of only two in the Winn Parish courtroom, hanging with that of Judge George Wear, former Winn jurist with whom Mr. Milling served as district attorney.
