All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 17, 1947 Winn Parish Enterprise Prominent Winn Native Succumbs In New Orleans Robert Edward Milling, Sr., 86 year old prominent attorney of New Orleans and a native of Winn Parish, succumbed at his New Orleans home early Tuesday morning, July 15. Religious rites were held at the Rayne Memorial Methodist Church by Dr. B. C. Taylor, pastor. Funeral services were held at the House of Bultman in New Orleans. Interment was in Metairie Cemetery. Mr. Milling was born in Winn Parish on April 16, 1861 and was the son of Thomas David and Mary Edna Teddlie Milling. He received his early education in the Winnfield schools and was graduated in law from L. S. U. Later he received his Ph. D. from Cooper Institute in Lauderdale, Miss. He was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1885 and also qualified to practice law in Mississippi. After graduation Mr. Milling returned to Winnfield to practice law with his father in law, J. C. Roberts. He was elected District Attorney for the Fourth Judicial District in Winn Parish in 1888 and served in that capacity until 1896 when he moved to St. Mary Parish where for a number of years he practiced in Franklin as partner of the late U. S. Senator Murphy J. Foster. In 1883 Mr. Milling was married to Miss Ida Roberts of Winnfield who preceded him in death. At the time of his death Mr. Milling was a senior member of the law firm of Milling, Godchaux, Saal, and Milling in New Orleans. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the La. State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Boston Club, and the La. Lodge of Masons.
