D. Mitchell, Ward 5 Resident, Expires Oct. 6 Ed (E. D.) Mitchell of the Wheeling Community, Ward 5, Winn Parish, passed away at 1:35 a.m. October 6, 1972 in Winnfield. He was 88 years of age. He was born in the Wheeling Community January 19, 1884 and was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish, Ward 5. Wheeling was his home. Mr. Mitchell was a retired farmer and cattleman and was also a retired employee of the Louisiana State Forestry Commission. He was for many years active in local government. He was a close observer of state politics and he was especially active in Ward 5 politics. Mr. Mitchell's interest in local government included a particular concern for public schools. He was a strong advocate of good schools and good government, high qualifications and efficient performance, honesty, dependability, and unrighteousness. He had for many years served on and at the time of his death was still serving on the Democratic Executive Committee of Winn Parish. Mr. Mitchell was the son of Joseph D. Mitchell, also a native and lifelong resident of Winn Parish, and Olive Gardner Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lula Luther Mitchell, a native of Grant Parish, Louisiana, who had passed away November 2, 1960. Following the death of his wife, Mr. Mitchell continued to maintain his home in Wheeling. Survivors comprise three sons, three daughters, one sister, twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. The sons are: Dr. Guy C. Mitchell, Waco, Texas; Dr. John H. Mitchell, Lafayette, Louisiana; and Roy D. Mitchell, Amite, Louisiana. The daughters are Mrs. V. L. Shelton, Winnfield, Louisiana; Mrs. Luke Jennings, Coushatta, Louisiana; and Mrs. E. L. Mose, Springhill, Louisiana. The sister is Mrs. Jodie Davison, Atlanta, La. Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell were held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday, October 7, in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church near Montgomery. Rev. C. W. Jones of Winnfield and Rev. L. E. Milem of Montgomery officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.
