L. Mixon Graduated From Local High School Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mixon, former Winnfield residents, now residing in Pineville, that their son, Ensign Charles Lynwood Mixon, 24, was missing in action. The War Department's message to his parents, received early Sunday morning read in part: "Ensign Lynwood Mixon has been reported missing in the service to his country since Aug. 16. We have made an extensive search for the ship which failed to return to its base and are continuing the search. Any further information will be forwarded to you." Ensign Mixon graduated from the Winnfield High School, later entering Louisiana College, Pineville. Prior to his enlistment he worked in the Baptist Students' Center at Louisiana Tech, Ruston. He was commissioned in the naval air force at Corpus Christi, Tex., June 1, 1941, before his parents moved from this city to Pineville. He received his "wings" May 27, of this year and was sent to For Worth, Texas, for transport duty training. The Navy Department wired "its deepest sympathy" to Ensign Mixon's parents. The deceased has many relatives in Winn Parish. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mixon, he has one brother, Rev. Randle Mixon, pastor of the Forest Ave. Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kan., and one sister, Miss Alice Nell Mixon, who is in training to become a nurse at Shreveport, and the following aunts: Mrs. Ella Mixon, Dodson, Route 2, Mrs. Preston, residing in Massachusetts, Mrs. E. B. Barton, Sardis, Mrs. B. Hughes, Montgomery, Mrs. H. C. Eagles and Mrs. Hasson Morris of this city. His uncles are O. J. Mixon, Winnfield, A. L. Mixon, Dodson, and Riley Shelton, Charleston, S. C. Ensign Mixon is the second war casualty since Pearl Harbor with relatives here and who formerly lived here. In April, Mrs. Ora Teegarden of this city was notified that her son, Kenneth C. Teegarden, age 32, was reported missing from his ship's crew off the coast of India. Teegarden was in the merchant marine service at the time the report was received here.
