All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** >From the December 30, 1949 Winnfield News-American Alfred Lee Mixon, Prominent Dodson Citizen, Succumbs Funeral services were held in Dodson at 2 p.m. last Friday, December 24, 1949, for Alfred Lee Mixon, 72, prominent Winn Parish farmer, civic leader, and school man who died at 8 a.m. December 22 at his home in Dodson. Rites were conducted at the Dodson Baptist Church by the Rev. John D. Kitchingham, of Columbia, lifelong friend of the deceased, assisted by the Rev. John W. Reynaud, pastor of the church, and interment was in the family plot at the Gansville Cemetery under the direction of the Edmonds Funeral Home. Pallbearers included Wilbur Sholars, J. Y. Terry, R. G. Simpkins, Judson Campbell, Hugh Walker Stovall, and Henry Kornegay. Born near Gansville in Ward 4, Mr. Mixon was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish. He was married on October 24, 1900 to Ida E. Wasson, also of near Gansville, and to the union were born 10 children, nine of whom survive. A farmer until he retired several years ago, Mr. Mixon also was identified with many civic, educational, religious and fraternal activities in Winn Parish. He was a member of the Dodson Baptist Church, which he served as an active deacon, until his death. He was mayor of Dodson at one time, served as school board member from both Ward 4 and 7 for several years, and was a member of the Dodson Masonic Lodge until it became inactive. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Jack Mixon of Lillie, Joe Mixon of Jena and Charles D. Mixon of Denver, Colo.; six daughters, Mrs. B. M. Stovall of Dodson, Mrs. C. A. Patrick of Oil City, Mrs. F. R. Curran of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Mrs. H. E. Crawford of Winnfield, Mrs. W. S. Keckler of Lake Charles, and Mrs. K. C. Simmons of Dodson; two brothers, O. J. Mixon of Shreveport and C. R. Mixon of Winnfield; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
