Mixon, Age 78, of Atlanta Dies At His Home Leader In Civic and Religious Affairs. Funeral Services Monday Hardy C. Mixon died at his home at Atlanta Sunday night about ten o'clock and was buried in the Winnfield cemetery Monday afternoon at four o'clock. The Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winnfield, conducted the funeral services held at the cemetery. Mr. Mixon was born in Lincoln Parish June 9, 1853 and at the age of 16 moved with his mother, his father having died, to Winn Parish establishing a home near the site of the present Limestone Quarry. Fifty-eight years ago he moved near Atlanta where he has lived ever since, rearing a family and making his influence felt in the community in the civic and religious affairs. He never aspired to political office, preferring to do his duty toward his fellowman as a private citizen, studying the problems of his farm and assisting in every way possible his neighbors engaged in the same business. In 1872 he and Miss Fannie McLemore were married and to them five children were born, three of whom survive him, J. J. Mixon of Natchitoches, R. L. Mixon of Atlanta, and T. E. Mixon of Tioga. Mrs. Mixon preceded her husband in death on April 17, 1930. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, L. L. Thompson and M. W. Mixon of Montgomery and one sister, Mrs. Cerelda Calhoun of Montgomery. His son, J. J. Mixon, served Winn Parish as superintendent of education for ten years, 1907 to 1917. Mr. Mixon had been in failing health for many months and it is believed that a fall he suffered about five weeks ago precipitated his death. Pall bearers included T. W. Fowler of Wheeling, J. M. Lang of Montgomery, B. W. Bailey, P. K. Abel, C. E. Tannehill and J. E. Carter of Winnfield. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
