All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 29, 1935 Winn Parish Enterprise Funeral Services For Mrs. Laura Melton Thursday Dies At Vicksburg, Miss., Following Car Wreck Sunday Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Melton, nee Tyson, 79, who died in a Vicksburg, Miss., hospital Monday afternoon as a result of injuries received in a car wreck Sunday, were held at the Tyson Cemetery near Packton Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Melson, who is a resident of near Packton, 12 miles south of here, was accompanying her daughter, Mrs. Irby Shopin to her home near Ironwood, Miss., when a car said to be occupied by negroes collided with the Shopin car near Vicksburg. Mrs. Melton was thrown from the car and fatally injured. Mrs. Mollie Stephens, her daughter, left immediately upon receipt of news of her mother's death, for Vicksburg. Mrs. Melton was at one time a large property owner in this parish. She was the widow of the late Mack Melton. Surviving are the following: Mrs. Mollie Stephens, Bud and Walker Melton of Packton; Mrs. Kate Gilmore of Alpine, Texas, and Mrs. Irby Shopin of Ironwood, Miss., one brother, Barney Tyson of Verda and one sister, Mrs. Nora Paige of Montgomery.
