Melton Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy W. Melton, widow of the late W. D. Melton, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carter Keith, in Baton Rouge, Thursday, December 21, 1944, were held at the First Baptist Church, Winnfield, Sunday, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. He was assisted by Rev. H. H. McBride. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Charles F. Walsworth, E. S. Burke, Bryant Sholars, J. N. Sowers, Jim Carter, and George Hightower acted as pallbearers. Mrs. Melton, 78 years of age, was born in Winn Parish and was the daughter of the late Wade and Anne Woodruff Wright. She resided in the family home on the Winnfield-Alexandria highway until about five months ago when she went to Baton Rouge to live with her daughter. Her husband died December 5, 1943. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and the Winnfield Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are six sons, Ed Melton, Riley Melton, and Cranford Melton, of Winnfield; Lee J. Melton, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Wright Melton, Kansas City, Mo.; and Bill T. Melton of Minden; two daughters, Mrs. Carter Keith and Mrs. Ann Finch of Baton Rouge; and one sister, Mrs. Will Long of Georgetown.
