D. Melton Monday Afternoon William D. "Uncle Bill" Melton, 84, who died at his home on Rt. 2, Winnfield Sunday morning at 3:00 o'clock following several months of serious illness. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Winnfield Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. H. H. McBride, officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. The services were concluded at the grave with the Masonic ritual by Eastern Star Lodge No. 151, F. & A. M. Pallbearers were Bryant Sholars, Fred Welch, John Mosley, John McLure, E. S. Burke, and George Hightower. Mr. Melton came to Winn Parish from Georgia and married Miss Nancy Wright, who resided at Zion in Grant Parish. He was a prominent cattleman and farmer and was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Winnfield. He is survived by his widow, "Aunt Nancy", who is seriously ill at her home; six sons, Riley and Wright of Rt. 2, Winnfield, Ed and Lee of Winnfield, and Bill and Cranford of Minden; two daughters, Mrs. Carter Keith of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Gene Finch of Rt. 2, Winnfield; one brother, Marion Melton of Winnfield; and one sister, Mrs. Emma Wise of Longview, Texas.
