H. Williams, Victim of Drowning Funeral services for George A. Moffett, 46 year old salesman for a grocery company in Monroe, who was drowned in the Ouachita River late Sunday evening, were held Tuesday afternoon in Monroe with the Rev. W. C. Scott, pastor of the First Methodist Church, in charge. Burial was in the Riverview Burial Park. Mr. Moffett had visited in Winnfield Sunday with his family at the home of his mother in law, Mrs. W. H. Williams. He and Mrs. Moffett returned to their home at 6:15 Sunday evening. While Mrs. Moffett was answering a telephone call, Mr. Moffett disappeared. Mrs. Moffett believed that he had been taken with some sudden and unaccountable mental lapse and wandered off to the river bank. His drowning was witnessed by a houseboat dweller. Mr. Moffett was a native of Jackson Parish, where he was born in 1892. His early education was obtained in that parish. Later he graduated in a business course at Tyler, Texas, and following that was connected with the Wyatt Lumber Company. Later he became salesman for the Monroe concern. His wife was the former Audie Bee Williams. One daughter, Sara Elizabeth Moffett, also survives. Mr. Moffett was prominent in Masonic, Shrine, and Eastern Star circles and was well known here. A large number of Winnfield friends attended the funeral.
