Bryan Price bryan303@bellsouth.net July 9, 2005, 2:55 pm www.southernfuneralhome.com Mr. Elmer Howrey Monroe, age 86 of Montgomery, La., passed away Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Alexandria, La. Mr. Monroe was born May 12, 1918, in Browndell, Texas. He was the son of the late Louis and Kathryn Dowden Monroe. Mr. Monroe served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired barber and a member of Hargis Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lorna Fletcher Monroe, one grand-daughter, Jennifer Ann Diffey, four sisters, and one brother. Mr. Monroe is survived by his children and their spouses: Bob and Fern Land, Huey and Phyllis Diffey, Bill and Carol Monroe, Ronnie Monroe, and David and Kathy Werntz. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Damon and Nathan Land, Laura James, Eric and Layne Diffey, Clay Monroe, Amy O'Hora, Jason Monroe, Myles and Evan Werntz, and Sarah Crum. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren and one brother, Mr. Buck Monroe. Services are under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Visitation will be held at Hargis Baptist Church in Montgomery, La. on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, from 9:00 AM until time of services. Funeral services will be held at Hargis Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 1:00 PM with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Interment will be at Hargis Cemetery in Montgomery, La.
