Moore, 96, Winn Pioneer, Dies Thursday Morning John D. Moore, Sr., of Jordan Hill, pioneer Winn citizen, who would have been 96 years of age December 14, passed away at his home at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, December 9, after a long illness. He was one of the three oldest citizens of the parish and had made his home here for about 90 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. "Uncle John" Moore, as he was known to his many friends and relatives, was born in Alabama in 1852 and moved to Winn Parish at an early age. For more than half a century he owned and operated his farm at Moore's Station in the Packton area and took an active part in civic, church, and government affaris of the Parish and State. He retired several years ago because of ill health, and had made his home for some time in the Jordan Hill Community. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Eliza Wilder Moore, Jordan Hill; five sons, J. D. Moore, Jr., and Leon Moore, Jordan Hill; Wade Moore and Nat Moore, Winnfield; and George Moore, Shreveport; four daughters, Mrs. Archie Jordan and Mrs. W. E. Smith, Jordan Hill; Mrs. W. N. Coburn, of Winnfield; and Mrs. Trav Merrett, Tioga; one sister, Mrs. Sabra McBride, Montgomery; one brother, Oliver Moore, Montgomery; Also surviving are a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
