Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the Rose-Neath Minden Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Ronnie Whitlock. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memories Cemetery. Morris Melton was born in Winnfield, LA and lived most of his life in Minden. He was a retired State Fire Marshall, a member of the American Legion, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his father, Bill Melton and son-in-law, Jerry Talton. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sibyl Warren Melton, his mother, Cora Johnson Melton; four daughters and their husbands, Nedra and Bobby Joe Parker, Nelda Talton, Marshia and Dickie Davis, Nancy and Lynn Goodwin, all of Minden; one son, Morris Melton and wife, Linda of Minden; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a special cousin, June Green of Shreveport.
