Mott Funeral Rites Held Tuesday John W. Mott, 87, a native of Winnfield, passed away in the Huey P. Long Hospital in Pineville, Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Rev. H. J. Mott, nephew of the deceased, officiated at the services complying with the request of his uncle, who in life had often expressed his desire for his brother's son, Henry, to preach his funeral. He was assisted by Rev. Coleman, pastor, of he Sardis Church. John W. Mott was born in Winnfield on February 11, 1866, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William P. Mott. The family moved to Grant Parish when John was about two years old, and he spent the most of his life near Dry Prong, becoming a successful farmer of the area as he grew into manhood. His wife preceded him in death in 1939. He was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and four sons, who are: Mrs. J. F. Welch, Mrs. M. D. Young, and Mrs. H. P. Smith, all of Dry Prong; John M. Mott, Jr., of Tioga, E. F. Mott, Simms, Otis Mott, Robstown, Texas, and Otho Mott of Winnfield. He had 21 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. The deceased had been making his home in recent years with is oldest son, John M. Mott, Jr., of Tioga.
